The State Government of São Paulo, through Emae, opens this Tuesday, October 6, a public call for the choice of companies interested in installing floating photovoltaic projects in the Billings reservoir, in the capital of São Paulo. In August, CanalEnergia Agency had already announced the government’s intention to open the call. Participants must submit technical, financial and environmental documents provided for in the notice. According to the secretary of Infrastructure and the Environment, Marcos Penido, the pilot plant installed on the lake of the dam showed the viability of the project. For him, with the call, the São Paulo Government gives another important example in the use of renewable energies, in addition to generating jobs and income for the population.

Proposals for generation plants with power ranging from 1 MWp to 30 MWp will be presented in four pre-established locations at Biilings and, after analyzing the documents submitted, Emae will select the best proposals, with the possibility of being implemented by the qualified companies.

Once the necessary procedures have been completed with the regulatory agencies, Emae and the future partners may establish a Special Purpose Company to enable the implementation of floating photovoltaic solar plants, whose energy will be sold in the Regulated and Free Contracting Environments. Emae will have a share in the revenue due to the corporate structure and the business to be formed.

In the second semester the northeast of brazil is home to the ‘harvest of the winds’, when wind conditions are strong and constant. This September, the energy generated in one day was enough to supply the entire Northeast.

The Brazilian Northeast recorded a record of wind power generation at the end of September, the month when the winds in the region are strongest and most frequent and is called the “wind harvest” by the industry in the sector. Wind energy is already the second source of energy in Brazil, behind only hydroelectric plants.

The energy produced only on September 30th was enough to supply the entire region and still have a little left.

According to the energy coordinator of the Federation of Industries of Ceará, Joaquim Rolim, historically, the Northeast has always been an energy importing region.

“And as wind generation has been growing year by year, the Northeast has been able to be an energy exporter at various times of the day, monthly. So, the energy that for the Northeast is normally an input, becomes an economic vector.”

Wind farms

Brazil has 653 wind farms, 82% of which are in the Northeast, where natural conditions are more favorable for the production of this type of energy.

Ceará is the third largest state for wind production, with 2,179MW. First is Rio Grande do Norte (4,672 MW), followed by Bahia (4,372 MW). Outside the Region, comes Rio Grande do Sul, with 1,835 MW, which occupies the 5th position in the national ranking, and Santa Catarina, in 8th.

The growth of energy production should continue in the coming years, believes the president of ABEEólica, Elbia Gannoum. “This growth over the past ten years will continue for the next ten years. So, it is the fastest growing source in the country, it is the most competitive source and it generates jobs, income and economic development”, he adds.

Survey conducted by the British Business Energy places the country behind only the United States in a ranking of 29 countries.

A survey by British Business Energy, a company operating in the United Kingdom, analyzed energy companies from 29 countries worldwide and placed Brazil in second place in the ranking of renewable energy. The country came only behind the United States with a score of 6.5, compared to the US’s 7 points. India ranked in third place with a score of 6.3.

The study shows that the energy industry continues to grow and is still very dependent in finite resources. Therefore, they analyzed the top ten countries that are investing, partially using or planning to use renewable energy in the near future. Hungary and Argentina are part of the ranking.

Energy production and sales are also growing. With increasing consumption, producers and suppliers around the world are having to think of renewable methods to move away from fossil fuels.

The countries with the highest revenues obtained in energy sectors were also listed. United States continues in the lead with more than US $ 1.2 trillion and China in second with US $ 836 billion. Furthermore, the study classified countries according to the participation of the energy sector in the formation of a country’s GDP (Gross Domestic Product). In this regard, the Netherlands is in first place, with 46.76% of its GDP derived from this industry, followed by Russia, with 29.4% and Norway with 19.7%.
